24 Hours (2000)
24 hours in London. 24 one-minute films,
each corresponding to an hour in the day. 24 glimpses of London’s
many lifestyles.
The kaleidoscope of characters includes
a class of five-year-olds, Russian stripper twins, a cycle
courier, an elderly insomniac, a funeral director, a homeless
man and film star Kathleen Turner.
24 Hours is a prism-like, exciting
way of exploring a city through film. Shot using a variety
of formats, including 35mm film, digital video, photo stills
and super 8, the films were directed by as varied a bunch
as their subjects, and included film students, commercial
directors, dubbing mixers and researchers.
24 Hours was the first programme
to be commissioned in Channel 4’s highly revered Alt-TV
strand, showcasing provoking, unusual and innovative film.
