Last Orders (2008)

Last Orders tells the story of the embattled Wibsey Workingmen's Club in Bradford. The club faces a dangerous budget deficit, and members' worries for the beloved institution mirror larger anxieties about their community. With high unemployment, immigration, and the smoking ban firmly in place, 'Wibseyites' feel their very world is under threat. An intimate and revealing film about the state of the white working class in 21st century Britain.

"Singer's film is extraordinarily intimate and moving. Even though we know that the characters hold repellent views, we still have some sympathy for them. The result is a rich, complex depiction of lives rarely shown on television...Brilliant."
