Welcome to the World
A groundbreaking global documentary project for 2012
Welcome to the World is a film about childbirth around the world. It explores the lottery of birth highlighting issues of infant and maternal mortality whilst celebrating this most universal human experience.
The film will capture some of the personal stories of the 130 million newborn babies born worldwide each year, and will explore how the circumstances of a baby's arrival in the world affects their chances for survival and the rest of their life.
We will feature mothers and babies in Sierra Leone, Cambodia, the USA, and the UK.
We would also like to invite people from all over the world to be involved in this unique project by sharing your own home videos.
Video footage can be recorded in any format, even just using your mobile phone, and can include absolutely anything from the run up to the birth, the delivery itself, and the first 24hours or so of your baby's new life.
What to film
We want to create an online gallery of birth and newborn babies from all over the world, in a variety of circumstances and settings. Whether you share the first mobile phone images of your baby, or footage of the delivery itself, or the emotions you feel the first night at home with your baby, all are welcome to join our online gallery.
We are looking for honest and personal videos about childbirth and early parenthood and what these experiences are really like for you. We want to reflect how different these experiences can be for different people in different cultures.
A selection of footage will be included in the documentary itself.
Why Poverty?
Welcome to the World will be released worldwide in Autumn 2012, screening on the BBC in the UK, PBS in the USA, Arte in France, and many other broadcasters internationally as part of the Why Poverty? Campaign more information at:
